Celebrating 70 Years of Sight and Service! Founded on the 5th of May, 1955, in Bulawayo with support from the British Empire Society for the Blind (now Sightsavers International), the Zimbabwe Council for the Blind began as a coordinating committee focused on preventing blindness. Early work included mobile eye units, spectacle production, and supporting blind children’s education in regular schools in Matabeleland and later on spread nationwide. Thanks to the unwavering support of partners like CBM International, CBM Global, Beit Trust, Khumalo Lions Clubs, Sightsavers, and many more as well as the dedicated partnership and guidance of the Ministry of Health and Child Care, which has played a key role in shaping and supporting eye health services in Zimbabwe we have grown into a national leader in eye care, education, and rehabilitation. Today, on the 5th of May, we proudly celebrate this milestone 70 years of restoring sight, empowering lives, and promoting inclusion for the blind and visually impaired across Zimbabwe. Our deepest gratitude goes to all who have walked this journey with us, the Government of Zimbabwe especially the Ministry of Health and Child Care; the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education; our partners, and our valued customers for their unwavering support. #ZCB70Years #VisionForAll #EyeCareZimbabwe #ZCBLegacy
